Hey I noticed today (I’m a bit late, hey I was unpacking!) that Cactus announced the Cactus V6 tranceiver that works on any camera with a standard hotshoe and a LOT of different ETTL cross-brand flashes. I have four Cactus V5 radio triggers as well as two YN622c ETTL triggers. My evolution in off-camera flash triggering has gone from optical (yuck, line of sight issues), to radio triggering, output set at flash, to an interest in controlling the output of off-camera flashes at the camera.
If you already have YN622s you can set output of your off-camera ETTL flashes via your camera’s menu (provided your camera has this feature of course). But it’s not very fast having to go into the camera menu to do this. The preferred method is to set the output right on top of your camera via buttons (Like the very expensive Pocket Wizards can do).
So Cactus has come out with the V6 triggers to control many kinds of ETTL flashes from your camera. And at $55 for each trigger, that is quite cheap compared to other systems. Looks like it’s time to sell my triggers and change to these. The V6’s will trigger V5s but you can’t set output from camera.
One major thing to note is that it has a Canon-esque locking bar to secure it to your camera. This is HUGE, as other flash triggers like Yongnuo feature a crappy plastic tightening ring that is hard to tighten securely. So far this unit is getting rave reviews!
