Today I got a Polaroid microphone shock mount. I like hunting on eBay for deals on used gear and I’ve gotten some great bargains. But sometimes eBay items have the little accessories missing that ship new. I picked up this Rode NT-2 for $100 off retail but it didn’t come with the mic stand mount. So I ordered a Rode RM5 but I also needed a shock mount to suspend the mic above talent. Rode sells two versions of one for $49 but I wanted to find something cheaper. This Polaroid Shock Mount seemed pretty good.
It’s got a smaller rubber band area than the Rode but it fits the NTG-2 just fine. Though it looks to be too small to fit my Rode M3.
It comes with a cold shoe mount which unscrews to reveal a 1/4 20 thread, which isn’t the 3/4 thread standard. Maybe I can get a 3/4 adapter.
Unscrew that and you get a mic stand thread size of 5/8-27.
The Polaroid shock mount comes with 2 spare rubber bands. The wing tightener is takes a bit of extra torque to get it tight, but overall the quality feels solid for this price point! Do you need a shock mount for your mic? Here’s a nice article that answers that question.
